1. How is the climate in Christchurch?
» Christchurch enjoys a temperate and relatively dry climate with a little rainfall compared to New Zealand's other cities. The temperature is comfortable through the year, however in winter the nights can be a little chilly and the frost is most likely to be seen. In Christchurch, frosty mornings are often followed by a sunny winter day. Nor'wester winds can blow any time of the year. It is a hot and dry type of wind that blows from the Southern Alps which can increase the temperature by 10 to15 degrees centigrade within an hour or so. Summers are mild sunny with low in humidity. Autumn has the longest period of uniform weather.
2. What type of clothes should I bring along with me? Is there any special clothing requirement?
» You need to prepare for a mix of weather conditions. Being a maritime climate, you could get a lot of short rainy spells, so try to keep some waterproof jackets. You need to think of layers, light stuff which you can wear when it is slightly cool. New Zealand has a casual approach regarding dress standards. T-shirts, sweat shirts and jeans are fine here.
